Radio 1 has faced various problems like the fact listeners dropped to just over 5 million around the time of Nick Grimshaw being the presenter. As a result, once Greg James took over, it was a must to maintain the audience. He was able to do this through various methods. For example, the 10 minute takeover. This gives the audience the ability to choose the music played for 10 minutes every morning.
