Paper 2 - Jungle Book Q4 (improved paragraph)

Explain how changes in production and/or distribution methods have affected the film industry. Refer to Disney's 1967 and 2016 versions of The Jungle Book to support your answer.

Distribution of the 1967 rendition was done by Buena Vista Distribution Company and globally by the international version. With the addition of merchandise released, these are examples of Disney's vertical integration. Disney had also expanded into theme parks, with the use of the new Disneyland, it gave the audience a prolonged opportunity to experience the film outside of viewing it. Alternatively, in 2016, Disney had established various social media pages like twitter and instagram for The Jungle Book release. They posted behind the scenes, sneak peeks and trailers, allowing them to reach an even bigger mass audience. Additionally, they used channels like ESPN to advertise at the Superbowl and Univision to target diverse demographics. The trailers released had improved since 1967 with shorter, more dramatic clips and the use of celebrity endorsement (with stars like Scarlett Johanssen, Idris Elba). As a result of these methods of distribution, the initial release in 2016 had an income of $103.6m and eventually $966.6m (globally).
