Raising hopes and denying gropes: Tory conference leaves no fantasy untouched:
Starting with the title, it is a gold mine for information and stories. It first starts with rhyme that immediately catches the audiences attention as the target audience are in a dominant hegemonic position. ‘Fantasy’ has connotations of fairy tale and childhood. This suggests the conference was childish and unprofessional but also unrealistic to what they want to achieve. It allows the target audience to feel secure in their judgement by assuring others agree. However those in the oppositional position will generally feel offended and objectified, not dissimilar to the woman who Johnson groped.
The photo used shows Johnson looking bad next to a woman. This could suggest the situation at hand; this being Johnson in bother with a woman. It could falsely suggest the woman photographed too is the woman mentioned that he sexually assaulted.
Later in the article, it references an episode of Succession: “shit show at the fuck factory”. The purpose being to suggest this as the title for the conference. This can put a bad view on The Guardian for using such an explicit statement, supporting the opposition audience of the Daily Mail. Alternatively, it can rally the audience that supports The Guardian as it is almost like a chant, something they can back up, something short and snappy.

Boris Johnson's final masterplan for a Brexit deal is revealed: EU envoy delivers five-point alternative to the backstop to Brussels - as Number 10 warns PM will BOYCOTT summit if leaders reject it:

On the Daily Mail’s side, they very much support and praise Boris Johnson’s actions at the conference. They start with using: ‘final masterplan’. Connoting a sense of leadership and admiration as if Johnson has the solution to everything. However, the fact they had to say ‘final’ creates an accurate idea that Johnson’s plans previously haven’t worked so he has had to make more.
An video used later in the article shows Stanley Johnson laughing and others having a ‘good time’. The Daily Mail have done this to only highlight the positives, never mentioning Johnson’s suspected sexual assault. This is because the audience reading will be in the dominant hegemonic position, who have no interest or concern for Johnson’s negatives, especially if it is involving the objectification of a woman. This can support Van Zoonan’s theory, that being women are used for men’s support and pleasure while they have no story or identity of their own. This is shown by the fact the groping situation is not mentioned meaning her side, her pain and her health is oppressed and pushed aside by the people who favour the man (Johnson).
